Non-Commercial Activities

Believe it or not, there are things I do just for the fun of it!

Politics

I have been directly involved in the Conservative party since I sought out its stall at the UCL "Fresher's Fayre" in 1999, having often defended its aims and decisions to others in the past. I have dedicated a lot of time to helping campaign throughout England and have been to many different events, each a tale in themselves. To read more on these, visit my politics section

Photography

On top of my commercial activities, I also photograph places and things to which I cannot claim copyright. English Heritage, for example, does not allow commercial photography at its sites, so I can freely present these photographs in an open e-gallery. Here I reproduce some of those photographs as a showcase of my work and an advertisement for the places I have seen and enjoyed enough to photograph

Please note, particular sections of this site may have their own dedicated gallery, such as the Politics section. Artwork pertaining to my photography exists in the writing and online stores sections and astronomical imaging exists in the astronomy section.

Singing

I have been an active member of one choir or another since joining the Ghyllside School Choir many years ago. Since then, I have been involved in the Kirkbie Kendal School Choir, the Kirkbie Kendal School Boys Choir, the Kendal Parish Church Choir and the ULU Chorus. I have been involved in public performances from the Mary Wakefield Music Festival in Kendal to the Royal Academy in London, with the ULU Chorus. I am now choirless as I have left UCL. I hope to map these further in a choral addition to the site, but that will have to be a thing for the future until I have finished other considerations.

Writing

As with the photography, there is a body of literature I have produced that is already available to the public through one site or another. Part of this may be found on Pretty Peanuts Pad, the one time website of the UCL Creative Writing Society, of which I was a founder member. The site includes two short pieces by me - Absent Friends and Treblinsky. The second hyperlink is to Pi Magazine, the UCLU inhouse rag that held a short piece I wrote reviewing a meeting of the British Association in the Maddox Wine Bar with Dr Richard Wiseman, renowned Ghost Investigator and psychologist. The third link is to WyrdWyrm, a new UCL Magazine founded in 2003. I had a piece in the first issue advocating the system of party politics in Britain. Finally, we have the writing section itself, containing an old piece of comedy that I wrote when I was a few years younger. Since then, it has become superfluous as the series acompanying it took another turn, so I present it here as a one-off

Astronomy

To reflect the two parts of my interest in practise, I have two sections of this website dedicated to astronomy. The first is the Eddington Society. This society is an attempt to build an astronomical group within Kendal, the town which produced the 'Father of Astrophysics', Sir Arthur Eddington, who was the first to produce mathematical theories of the forces at work in the insides of a star. His work still has resonances in modern astronomy, his equations used in a similar way to Newton's laws in the age of Einstein. Indeed, one of his practical projects was to prove a vital tenant of relativity - that the light from stars is bent by the presence of a large gravitational field. The second part is a review of my time at UCL, incorperating quite a lot about my fourth year project, from which a website was spawned

Friends and Family

Learn about the people who had to put up with me and the people I have put up with. Anyone I can find a photo of and can remember a bit about will have that bit summarised and put in this section. Any websites pertaining to this will also be included as will stories relating to my aqcaintences. On the other hand, if you are one of those people who I have met and so horribly slandered as to put on my site, email me with your response and what you think of me and I will put that on your page. Photos from those I have missed out will be appreciated. As long as I can remember who you are...

Gaming

I also have a slight interest in several different games. One example would be Duke Nukem 3D, for which I have a couple of self made levels to download. A second would be star trek bridge commander - current favourate game - for which I have a ship or two to download. Then there is a self made game, Eliminator, and a play by email creative writing 'game' set in the star trek universe.
